  • 3-18, 19, 20 Bolton Valley, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen PICS!

After that giant storm on Tuesday last week I was lucky enough to have a VT trip planned to 3 mountains that I had never been to before. We made Bolton Valley the home base and skied there, Jay, and MRG. Bolton was outstanding. If I had to guess, their clientile doesn't venture into the trees often. The low grade…

  • Mad River Glen this weekend

I'm trying to decide where to go this weekend and MRG is on the list with Sugarbush and Stowe. Has anyone skied MRG this week and can comment on the conditions? Is Paradise in decent shape? The website says it's open but that doesn't mean it's skiable.

  • Switzerland: The Land of Cool Ski Lifts

Just got back from 10 days in Switzerland. Boy, their ski areas put ours to shame when it comes to lift infrastructure. Probably because a fair number of these areas are publicly owned and ski lifts are seen as a form of public transport. First, let's look at Zermatt. Need to get a lot of people uphill? Why not a…

  • Sugarbush 3/14 – 3/18

Sorry for the delay in posting this but it's been a busy return from vacation and I've been lazy but I wanted to get all of this into one post. 3/14/17- Started out at Lincoln peak. The snow started around 7 am and I got to the parking lot around 845 to find it pretty empty. Took a few runs…

  • Belleayre/Plattekill – 3/18-19/2017

If you wanted the goods in the Catskills then last weekend was the time to get em'. Started out Saturday at Belleayre to get a hike in to Cathedral Brook which rode amazingly well. Soft bumped packed pow on the upper half and thigh deep powder on the lower half. Only looked like half a dozen or so people skied…

  • Bretton Woods 3-20

Blue Bird Day, until about 2. Started cool, warmed as day progressed. Ski on, all day. Mostly 2 people on quad, with many empty chairs going up hill. Light crowd. Most, about 10:30 to noon. When older pass holders had departed. Typical for the area, groomed cord in the am. Sun softening as day progressed. Great day to be there.

Now that I have your attention... to clarify, I'm referring to SINGING Fat Ladies. Yawgoo Valley 1st to close in the NE.

  • Stratton 3/19/2017

Good conditions on the hill; even days after the storm. Nice packed powder all over the mountain. Some scratch on the steeps and in the bumps. It was pretty busy, but not as bad as I thought it would be. The Shooting Star lift wasn't running due to mechanical issues. Clouds in the AM kept the surface powdery. Things got…
