Windham Mountain – Black Dome Trail & Escarpment Trail
Date: 12/7/01
Trails: Black Dome Trail & Escarpment Trail with short bushwhack
Conditions: Dark with low light as twilight approached, dry otherwise
Distance: Approximately 6.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate due to pre-dawn conditions
Conditions: Dry & very good for early December
Special Required Equipment: Camera, headlamp, glove liners
Trip Report: Just missed sunrise from Windham summit but that was okay as clouds were on the horizon & I got there just as sun was coming over them.
Glad I had a mini-mag as the new Princeton Matrix headlamp that overall I really like has one limitation. While battery life is great with the 3 LCD bulbs, the range is limited. As this was my first time on the trail (not on the way to Black Dome which I had done this summer) the Matrix beam did not reach far enough to check out the NY DEC disk. When I used the Matrix with six friends on Valley Way in the WMNF, I knew the trail & was not leading so this shortcoming was not noticeable. Using the mini-mag a few times made trail-finding easy though.
Pictures soon I hope.
