April Fools Day Storm Drops Over Half A Foot of New Snow
Newry, Maine (April 1, 2011)-All jokes aside, skiers and riders are all marveling at Sunday River’s mid-winter conditions thanks to an April Fools Day snowstorm that has dropped over half a foot of fresh snow since earlier this morning .
Sunday River is expected to receive over a foot of snow from this storm just in time for tomorrow’s annual Parrot Head Festival , where first tracks will be met with margaritas and Jimmy Buffett tunes.
Currently open with 132 trails across all eight mountain peaks, this new snow brings the resort’s total snowfall to just shy of 150 inches for the season.
Starting tomorrow, April 2, thousands of skiers and riders will descend upon Sunday River for Jimmy Buffett-inspired parties, live music, costume contests, a pond-skimming competition, a margarita mix-off, the Bust ‘n’ Burn moguls challenge, and more-all thanks to the Parrot Head Club of The Northern Tropics’ efforts to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Festivities will take place slopeside at White Cap Base Lodge during the day and at Foggy Goggle in South Ridge Base Lodge at night.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival benefits Maine’s Make-A-Wish Foundation in a collaborative effort between the Parrot Head Club of The Northern Tropics and Sunday River. Each year’s Parrot Head Festival presented by Bud Light Lime raises approximately $6,000.
