Outdoor Retailer Returns to Maine Mall Area, Grand Opening Celebration May 11-13, 2012
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine, May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Eastern Mountain Sports, one of the nation’s largest outdoor retailers, will host a grand opening of a new store in South Portland, ME on May 11-13. Located next to Toys R Us across from the Maine Mall, the 20,442 square foot space triples the company’s presence in the Portland market where the Marginal Way store has been operating since 2005.
“This new store represents are most aggressive expansion in our 32 year history in the state of Maine,” said Will Manzer, CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. “The Portland area has supported our brand since 1980 and we’re thrilled to provide them with a second convenient shopping location with more gear to choose from.” The new South Portland location will feature a new section for kids, an expanded kayak and stand up paddleboard department, as well as a full-service bike shop. These improvements complement an extensive selection of outdoor apparel and gear for backpacking, camping, climbing and hiking.
A grand opening community celebration will take place May 11-13, with a portion of the weekend’s proceeds donated to Portland Trails, a nonprofit land trust that preserves green space for public access and connects people with places.
Kayaking is the signature sport of the Portland store with an extensive selection of boats for recreational, light touring and ocean kayaking. The selection of gear and apparel available at the new South Portland store includes Eastern Mountain Sports’ proprietary products such as its outerwear layering system SYNC and Techwick, its versatile, moisture management base layer. Like all other Eastern Mountain Sports stores, the new store will have experienced Foot Gurus, sales associates specially trained to analyze feet and to custom fit athletic footwear.
