NORTH CREEK, NY ??” Snowmaking has begun and natural snow has fallen at Gore Mountain, with Opening Day scheduled for Friday, November 19, weather permitting. Major snowmaking additions, renovations in the Base and Saddle lodges, and various trail improvements have kept crews busy both indoors and out.

Gore Mountain has added 70 new tower guns for snowmaking, an increase of almost 60%. The new tower guns will allow Gore to open more terrain earlier in the season. Four new fan guns and a new pump will also strengthen the snowmaking fleet.

Some of the new tower guns will be installed top-to-bottom on “Twister,” Gore Mountain’s race trail. Trail crews widened “Twister” from 60-80′ wide to 120′ allowing for more high-profile racing events to be hosted. This work has already been recognized by the racing associations, who scheduled a four-day midweek giant slalom before Christmas. The trail was widened in consideration of the original design, preserving the unique character of this favorite Gore Mountain run.

Improvements to the base lodge cafeteria and Saddle Lodge are in progress. A modernization of the foodservice area to a food court layout will provide a nicer dining ambience and new menu options. The complete renovation of the Saddle Lodge will feature new tables and chairs, new fireplace, and full food and beverage service.

Glade skiers will enjoy a new entry to the “Tahawus Glades” from the Tahawus trail. Glade skiers can also look for the official premier of the “Dark Side Glades” on the High Peaks Chair lift line. An extension of “High Pines” on the Topridge lift line is planned.

Gore Mountain will be developing a family-friendly beginner terrain park on “Upper Sleighride,” and a more advanced park on “Lower Sleighride.” The terrain park in the Gore-E-Gully area, serviced by its own chairlift, will continue to provide a great freestyle experience.

New Rossignol skis and new Burton snowboards will be available in the rental shop. Gore Mountain is a Burton Learn to Ride Center, offering equiment that in combination with instruction, helps beginners learn and progress quickly.

Guests can choose from Snow Sampler four-packs, Empire Cards, Student Cards, gift certificates, and season passes for any skier or rider on their holiday list. For more information, call (518) 251-2411, or visit www.goremountain.com.
