JAY, Vermont ??” Winters are deep but summer is sweet in Jay, Vermont as Jay Peak Resort, with the help of local vendors and residents, plans to celebrate its short summer season with The 2nd Annual August West Music Festival Saturday, Aug. 12.

???Summer in the Northeast Kingdom is short and sweet so we like to get after it while we can,??? said Steve Wright, Director of Marketing and Sales for Jay Peak Resort. ???The August West festival celebrates the whole Grateful Dead experience, but being a Dead-Head isn’t a pre-requisite at all. With the soulful music of Vermont??в„ўs renowned Rick Reddington, this year??в„ўs festival promises to offer the perfect summer setting to listen to live music, lick a little free Ben & Jerry??в„ўs and take home a one-of-a kind, homemade tie-dyed t-shirt.???

Admission to the festival is free, and it kicks off at noon in the field in front of The Lodge at Jay. The change in venue this year will allow for more room to roam, sway or just sit and relax. Headlining the list of performers will be Rick Reddington and his band, known for their soulful and dead-on Grateful Dead covers. Free sampling of Vermont??в„ўs own Ben & Jerry??в„ўs ice cream will be available as well as free tie-dying of t-shirts for kids and kids at heart.

A beer garden, full-on summer barbecue and vendor tent round out the festival activities, which concludes at 6 p.m. Other weekend activities include tram rides to the top of Jay Peak via Vermont??в„ўs only 60-passenger aerial tramway. Golfers should consider playing nine holes at the new Jay Peak Championship Golf Course, which debuted its front nine this month. Players are already touting the course as one of the premier courses in Vermont with intelligent design and breathtaking scenery.

T-shirts for tie-dying are available for $15/adult and $10/kids 12 and under. All proceeds for the event will be donated to The Jay Peak Area Association, which promotes travel and tourism in the Jay region. Packages are also available from $99/person/night and include entrance to the festival, lodging in the Hotel Jay, breakfast, dinner, and an aerial tram ride.
