Kevin Eubanks of the Tonight Show, August 27th At Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center
(Spruce Peak at Stowe, VT) – Kevin Eubanks (Music Director on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno for 18 years) brings his guitar mastery and fresh sound with his quartet to Stowe on August 27 at 8:00pm. Eubanks’ band, featured on his new 2010 Mack Avenue release Zen Food, consists of saxophonist Bill Pierce, drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith, keyboardist Gerry Etkins and bassist Rene Camacho. Reserved Seating is available online at www.sprucepeakarts.org or through the ticket office, Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00pm to 3pm or between 12:00pm and curtain on performance days, call 802-760-4634 .
In his band, Eubanks has a powerful rhythm section ally in drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith, who, like Eubanks, was a commanding presence on the music scene before heading West to the “Tonight Show” bandstand. Completing the ranks of this bold unit, which deftly combines “fusion” in the best sense with other stylistic turns, are saxophonist Bill Pierce, who holds the Woodwind Chair at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, keyboardist Gerry Etkins and bassist Rene Camacho. Zen Food evokes a sense of diversity and also collective continuity, qualities long in the making, and now ready to “hit the road” in a global way.
As for his long stint as musical foil for Jay Leno, Eubanks asserts, “I enjoyed the job, I enjoyed learning all these new things, meeting new people and just seeing another side of what I didn’t know.” Artist website: www.kevineubanks.com
