Killington Resort to Open for the 2007-08 Ski and Snowboard Season Friday
KILLINGTON, Vermont — Thanks to two weeks of optimal snowmaking temperatures, Killington Resort opens for the 2007-08 ski and snowboard season Friday at 9 a.m. with up to 19 trails served by three lifts off Killington Peak and Snowdon Mountain.
Killington Resort, which features the most extensive snowmaking system in the world covering more than 750 of the resort’s 1,215 total acres, began snowmaking operations off the 4,241-foot summit of Killington Peak ??“ the highest lift-served skiing in Vermont – on October 28th. For opening day, skiers and riders will enjoy deep base depths on up to seven miles of groomed trails. Killington will offer Blue Square (more advanced) and Black Diamond (most advanced) trails only. No Green Circle (easier) terrain will be available.
“For the past two weeks we have had hundreds of snowguns producing a massive amount of snow,” said Jeff Temple, Killington’s director of mountain operations. “In fact, we’ve been able to produce almost twice as much snow this year as we’ve produced for opening day the prior three years. And over the next 36 hours snowcats will be working the snow surface to provide our guests the best possible opening day conditions.”
The K-1 Express Gondola, Northridge Triple and Snowdon Poma will operate on Friday, with the addition of the Snowdon Triple and Snowdon Quad on Saturday. The Reason Terrain Park at Killington Peak will also open on Friday with nine features, including a 28-foot down bar, 28-foot round bar and a hip/table jump.
Snowmaking operations resume Thursday afternoon and continue through the weekend, as Killington will offer expanded terrain for Thanksgiving week. The National Weather Service is also forecasting snow for Thursday night and Friday.
All skier/rider services will be available at the K-1 Lodge. The Killington Ski and Snowboard School will offer private lessons at the K-1 Lodge for adult and children who are Blue Square and Black Diamond level skiers and riders.
