Mont Sutton Earns Recognition for Environment Practices

Glades at Mont SuttonMont SUTTON earned recognition twice lately for its outstanding environmental practices. This major ski resort in Quebec – renowned for its unique concept of glade skiing and respect for nature, was finalist in the Eastern Townships Environmental Excellence Awards last October 22 and received the special award “Environmental involvement and sustainable development” during Brome-Missisquoi Excellence Awards last October 26.

During the Eastern Townships Environmental Excellence Awards, organized by Conseil régional de l’environnement de l’Estrie and by Fondation estrienne en environnement, Mont SUTTON stand out with its initiative “Share and Reforest”, which took place last winter on this ski resort’s Facebook page. From March 28 to April 7, 2013, Mont SUTTON posted five of its eco-friendly actions and the Facebook community was invited to share each of these actions. For every “Share” of every action on, Mont SUTTON promised to plant one tree on the mountain. The objective of this initiative, among others, was to plant trees on the mountain to contribute to the regeneration of the forest, and to inform Mont SUTTON’s Facebook fans about the eco-friendly actions, whom did in turn inform their friends and hopefully now put these eco-friendly actions into practice.

Last October 26, 2013, during Brome-Missisquoi Excellence Awards, Mont SUTTON has been congratulated one more time for all its eco-friendly actions taken by receiving the special award “Environmental involvement and sustainable development”. Since its opening in 1960, Mont SUTTON incorporates its environmental policy to every decision according to the SUTTON Conscience Code to position itself as a green and as a destination who cares about environment. The SUTTON Conscience Code, a working reference tool for sustainable development, gathers concretes eco-friendly actions taken at Mont SUTTON in the following environmental sectors: water management, energy efficiency, waste management, GHG emission reduction, social development in the community, preservation of natural habitats and wildlife, and partnership with organizations in the area.
