Sugarloaf Hosts Winter Triathlon – Nordic, Snowshoe, and Snow Run
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME – The Sugarloaf Outdoor center will host a new kind of race this spring, the Sugarloaf Winter Triathlon 20K presented by Baxter Outdoors, a new event production company owned by Baxter Brewing Co.
The Winter Triathlon 20k is a multi-discipline, three person relay race. Each team will be required to complete a 10km Nordic ski leg, a 5km snowshoe leg, and a 5k snow run (yaktrax, microspikes, stabilicers, etc suggested). Teams will designate one racer per leg, and have a relay baton that must be carried at all times by the racer who is on course. The cost for registration will be $50 per person, $150 per team.
The Sugarloaf Outdoor Center is home to Maine’s Largest Nordic center. Tucked back in the woods a mere mile from the base area, the Outdoor Center offers access to over 90 km of groomed trails for both classical and skate skiing, as well as snowshoeing and a NHL sized ice rink for skating. With a newly renovated lodge, the facility has been able to host numerous events throughout the winter season.
Baxter Outdoors will be serving up the highest quality outdoor experiences all year round with their adventure race series, utilizing and capitalizing on the natural terrain that Maine has to offer. Their initiative is to encourage an active lifestyle, and get people outside. “We recognize that people are busy and that, often, exercise and recreation are the first things to suffer.” Races will be designed for all abilities, but offer a challenge for those competitors willing to accept.
The race will have three categories: all male, all female, and coed. The top three placing teams in each category will be recognized at a podium ceremony after the conclusion of the race.
Baxter Brewing Co. will be on site to wrap up the event with an Après Ski Party at the Rack for those participants 21 and over.
