CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — The festivities surrounding the 26th annual Sugarloaf Marathon & 15K will be expanded this year with the first-ever Sugarloaf Sports Expo. Outdoors-oriented vendors will be on hand 2-7 p.m. May 17 in the Sugarloaf Base Lodge for the Expo.
“Originally the event was planned as something for the runners to do the night before the race since they would be here for registration, but now it’s turned into something much bigger, ” said Naomi Barnum, Sugarloaf marketing and merchandising manager. “This is geared to more than just runners; there’ll be something for anyone who loves getting outside and getting active.”
Maine Huts & Trails, New Balance, Northern Outdoors, Sky Dive New England, and Joe Jones will be among the businesses represented at the Expo. Local artisans whose crafts are geared toward nature will also have booths set up. About 400-500 runners are expected to compete in the Sugarloaf Marathon and 15K, and the majority will be at Sugarloaf that Saturday.
