Sugarloaf to host Maine premier of Jeremy Jones’ Deeper
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Sugarloaf will host the Maine premier of Jeremy Jones’ Deeper, a new film by Teton Gravity Research (TGR), on Saturday, October 9, during the resort’s annual Homecoming Weekend.
The Deeper premier will take place at 8pm, and will precede the world premier of Big Mountain. Big Love., the new high-definition film about Sugarloaf. Both films will be shown free of charge, outdoors on The Beach at Sugarloaf.
Starring Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) alumnus Jeremy Jones, Deeper follows Jones and other top freeriders as they travel to the world’s snowboarding meccas and venture past the boundaries of helicopters, snowmobiles, and lifts to explore untouched realms. Deeper will thrill viewers as Jones faces the biggest challenges he has ever encountered in snowboarding, including all-night hikes, sleeping on peaks, camping 65 miles from civilization, 20-below temperatures, 10-day storms, and 20-mile days.
“The Deeper crew put cameras in places and in conditions you could never imagine,” TGR co-founder Steve Jones said. “It is the ultimate first-hand experience and the most insane riding I have ever seen.”
A native of Massachusetts, Jones graduated from CVA in 1993 and went on to become one of the greatest big mountain snowboarders of all time. He has been named “Big Mountain Rider of the Year” eight times by Snowboarder magazine, and has been featured in more than two dozen ski and snowboard films. Jones also founded snowboard manufacturer Jones Snowboards and Protect Our Winters, a non-profit dedicated to reversing global climate change by uniting the winter sports community.
Deeper features footage from locations around the world, including Antarctica, Alaska, Europe, California, and Utah. In addition to Jones, the film stars athletes Travis Rice, Xavier De Le Rue, Josh Dirksen, Ryland Bell, Jonaven Moore, Forrest Shearer, Johan Olofsson, Lucas Debari, and Tom Burt.
Following the film premiers Sugarloaf will host a free, 21-plus after-party in the Widowmaker lounge featuring popular Maine-based band Paranoid Social Club.
The premier event is part of Homecoming Weekend at Sugarloaf, an annual tradition that offers Sugarloafers the chance to catch up with friends, take in the fall foliage, and take part in numerous events. For a complete list of Homecoming events, visit www.sugarloaf.com.
