NEWRY, Maine — For the second consecutive year Sunday River ski resort will open for the season with skiing and riding on Halloween thanks to cold temperatures and early season snowmaking.

All skiers and riders who arrive in costume on Halloween will receive their lift tickets for free, a promotion the resort introduced last season.

“We have been adding new snowmaking technologies including tower guns and fan guns which help us make more snow early in the season,” said Dana Bullen, Sunday River General Manager. “Opening on Halloween is a great treat to offer skiers and riders across New England and we??в„ўre proud to be able to offer it.”

Lift access will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning and the resort will remain open on Saturday and Sunday before temporarily closing for the following midweek period.

Open terrain on Friday will be on the upper mountain and for advanced skiers and riders only. The T2, Upper Sunday Punch and Jim??в„ўs Whim trails will be open, with a small terrain park built on T2. Lift access will be on the Locke Mountain Triple. Additional trails may open for the weekend depending on temperatures and snowmaking. Updates and conditions reports will be posted online at www.sundayriver.com.

Lift tickets on Halloween will be $25 for all ages, however skiers and riders arriving in costume will receive their lift tickets for free. Lift ticket rates for the weekend have not yet been announced.
