BARTLETT, New Hampshire ??” The White Mountains of New Hampshire have been a longtime draw for outdoor enthusiasts looking to hike, bike, kayak, and rock climb. Over the weekend of July 23 and 24 the Ultimate White Mountain Adventure Race, an endurance-testing team combination of these pursuits, will take place in and around Attitash Resort in Bartlett, N.H.
“It’s a true test of will, athleticism and teamwork,” said Race Director Marty Rosenthal. “Last year’s White Mountain race at Attitash started at midnight, which really called upon the competitors land navigation skills. Competitors should expect the unexpected again this year.”
The Ultimate White Mountain Adventure Race is the second leg in a three part series. The first race is the Ultimate Adirondack held in New York and the third is the Ultimate Green Mountain in the Killington region of Vermont. Teams that compete in all three races will be vying for the grand prize of airfare and paid entry in the Coast-to-Coast Adventure Race in Costa Rica. The Costa Rica race is a five-day, 400-kilometer course of biking, hiking and paddling.
The White Mountain leg of the series will include such elements as road running, trail running, mountain biking, road biking, paddling, fixed ropes and land navigation. The race duration is approximately 12 hours. There is both a Championship and Open Division allowing first time racers and seasoned veterans to compete alongside each other.
Net proceeds for the series will benefit the Ultimate Sports Association, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing support to young athletes and volunteer coaches.
The Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing School in North Conway, N.H. will be supporting the event by monitoring the ropes section of the course to ensure safety and use of the correct equipment.
Registration for the event is ongoing and competitors may register as a team or individually. Registration and information on the Ultimate Adventure Race Series is available at www.ultimate-race.com.
