SPECULATOR, New York — After a one-year hiatus, Oak Mountain Ski Center, a 14 trail family ski area located in the Adirondack Mountains, will re-open this Winter through the implementation of Inter municipal Cooperation by local governments, hard work and community action. *On October 26, 2007, the Village of Speculator was granted receivership of Oak Mountain Ski Center by the Supreme Court while the ski center undergoes foreclosure proceedings.

Conditions permitting, the planned opening is December 26th. Anticipated operation will be Thursday-Sunday skiing, snowboarding and tubing along with night tubing Friday-Sunday. Ski and snowboard rentals, lessons and season passes will be offered. Food and beverage service will be available during all open hours.

“We are excited to be re-opening Oak Mountain Ski Center, however, it will take the combined efforts of many to make it happen,” said Speculator Mayor Neil McGovern. “We will be holding job fairs to hire full-time and part-time staff and scheduling volunteer works days to help prep the trails and move equipment.”

A three person volunteer “Oak Mountain Commission” will assist the Village Board in day to day operation, management, and future planning; while Department heads will be hired to direct staff and equipment use.

Persons interested in employment or volunteering at the ski center should contact the Village of Speculator at 1.518.548.7354 or the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce/Office of Tourism at 1.518.548.4521. An employment interest form is available for download at www.speculatorchamber.com.
