WATERVILLE VALLEY, New Hampshire ??вЂќ On Saturday, January 22, Waterville Valley will host a qualifying event for the 2005 Sports Illustrated For Kids Next Snowsearch, a national talent search to find young athletes who best represent the next generation of extreme skiers and snowboarders. The contestants will be judged on all elements of the mountain, from park and pipe, to bumps, and racing. The judges will also interview the participants to evaluate character. The season-long search will be made up of 70 qualifying, including four super-qualifier, events held at resorts across the United States and Canada from December 2004 to January 2005. The series will culminate in the championships at Keystone Resort, CO, February 11-13, 2005.
Waterville Valley is known for producing some of the top skiers and riders in the nation including Eastern Boarder Pat Moore, Hannah Kearney, 4-time world juniors gold medalist in moguls and Christina Craddock, 2003 U.S. aerials champion.
For the finals, more than 150 athletes (age 9-13), who have been selected from the qualifying events to compete in everything from park and pipe, to bumps, racing, and big mountain skiing. ??вЂњ a three-day test of all-around skill on snow at Colorado’s Keystone Resort.
NBC Sports will broadcast the 2005 Sports Illustrated For Kids’ Next Snow SEARCH Finals on March 5, 2005 (2-3PM EST, 12-1PM MST). The one-hour program will showcase the kids who represent the future of skiing and snowboarding.
