WINTERGREEN, Virginia — With Mother Nature having already added four inches of snow at Wintergreen Resort as of 11 a.m. and an additional four to six inches forecast to fall throughout the day, winter sports enthusiasts are flocking to the mountain. The return of cold temperatures late last week enabled Wintergreen’s fully computerized snowmaking system to create enough of the “white stuff” to allow skiers and snowboarders to enjoy much of the resort’s terrain. The storm that has impacted the region will bring enough snow to enable the resort to open most of the remaining terrain including the expert terrain known as The Highlands.

Wintergreen Resort has its slopes for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend.

Slopes: Today, Eagles Swoop, Upper and Lower Dobie, the Upper and Lower Cross trail, Potato Patch, Tequila, Upper and Lower Sunrise and Discovery Ridge Learning Area are open today with 3 lifts running. Upper Cliffhanger and Lower Wild Turkey (favorites on The Highlands) will open this Saturday and our Progression Terrain Park will open on Sunday.

Tubing: The Plunge will be open today from 2pm – 9pm. The Slide will be open this Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Wintergreen Resort anticipates its slopes remaining open through April 1, 2008. For the most current information, guests should visit wintergreenresort.com.

This winter there’s even more for guests on the mountain. A dedicated learning area, terrain park enhancements, rental shop improvements and increased snowmaking coverage are just a few of the improvements for this winter season. For guests new to skiing and snowboarding, Wintergreen offers the “Guaranteed Learn to Ski & Ride” program, featuring a lift, rental and beginner lesson package.
