Stratton – Thanksgiving Day

Nov 22, 2012 - Thanksgiving Day
Conditions: Variable: Hardpack in the shade, spring-like in the sun

We went to Stratton on Thanksgiving Day. The sun was shining, temps reached the high 40's and crowds were light. The gondola and the Ursa were the only lifts running. Black Bear, Polar Bear, Grizzly Bear and North American were the only trails open except for the cat walk below Ursa that feeds back to the base area. (I don't know the name of it).

Spring like conditions on (my) first day of the season was weird but welcome. Trails in the sun were softened and turnable but those not (like Upper Grizzly Bear) were essentially sheets of ice. A good job making snow but I think with heavier crowds the surfaces would quickly become unskiable.
