BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif., Dec. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — While many parts of the country bemoan the lack of snow for winter sports, Big Bear Lake, CA is experiencing outstanding conditions. Starting with snowfalls in November, Big Bear Lake, home to Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, has received over three feet of snow in the month of December, compared to an average monthly snowfall of 8.72 inches. And while three feet may not be a record for snow country, it’s far above what other western mountains have experienced, including all of the California resorts.

“Unique weather patterns have brought us some surprising natural snowfalls,” says Big Bear Mountain Resorts Marketing Director Chris Riddle. “This year, we’ve had some inside slider storms that have been centered right over Big Bear, by-passing the Sierras and dropping snow right where we want it.”

The coup de gras for Big Bear Mountain Resorts is their state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities on all runs. With abnormally cold temperatures during the first three weeks of December, nightly high volume snowmaking has added to the natural base to make excellent skiing and boarding conditions. Both mountains are completely open, and the current lull in storms means an easy drive to the snow on all mountain roads.
