BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire — As of this morning, Bretton Woods, part of Mountain Washington Resort, has fired up its snowmaking guns and is busy laying down a good base for the approaching ski season. There is already over a foot of snow at the Top o’Quad Restaurant, according to Chris Ellms, Director of Ski Operations for the Resort.

“We want to get folks out on the snow just as soon as we can, so we intend to take full advantage of our high elevation,” says Ellms. Bretton Woods has a base elevation of 1,600 feet, and that typically translates into cooler temperatures, and allows aggressive snowmaking. “You can have the most powerful snowmaking system on the planet, but you can’t use it unless you have cold enough temperatures,” remarks Ellms.

Bretton Woods will open as soon as the combined efforts of Mother Nature and the Bretton Woods snowmaking team allow. The plan is to spin the lifts at the first opportunity, which is expected to be once snowmaking is able to go around-the-clock, producing adequate snow cover.
