FRANCONIA, New Hampshire ??” Cannon Mountain will host its annual Crash Test Dummies race at high noon on Saturday, March 11.

For this dummy-sled race, participants will create sleds outfitted with inanimate “drivers” that will race head-to-head in a single elimination ladder format. Ideal sleds should be created with both style and speed in mind, since a panel of judges will rate them on their aesthetics, durability, and speed. Final creations of previous years have ranged from bare bones to elaborate, with some dummies sashaying down the mountain in lawn chairs.

This race is more of a spectator sport, as people peruse the sleds prior to the race and then watch the outcome from right outside the Peabody Base Lodge and The Lift Pub.

Inn Seasons of Lincoln, NH, is sponsoring the race and has donated over $3,000 in cash and prizes. The entry fee is $5 per sled, with cash prizes for the top three winners in each of three separate categories: Best of Show, Most Original, and Race Winner.

Cannon Mountain offers 55 trails, 9 lifts, and terrain from beginner to expert. The NH Division of Parks and Recreation, part of the Department of Resources and Economic Development, manages Cannon Mountain.
