BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire ??” “Babs” Aileen Machado has been the friendly face at the Bretton Woods Mountain Resort food court for the last sixteen years. Originally from Rhode Island, this Twin Mountain resident is an invaluable member of the Bretton Woods team committed to sharing all that is wonderful about the Mount Washington Resort with everyone she meets. Now, many of Babs’ Bretton Woods friends and family are rallying together to help Babs out as she fights pancreatic cancer.

Knowing how hard it is to face illness and mounting medical costs, several Bretton Woods employees have created a benefit dance and raffle to help defray some of those burdens. “Babs would be the first one to do it for any of us if we were facing the same situation,” said Pam Healey, ski area executive assistant. “She is a sweetheart, and always has a smile on her face.”

A “Babs” Aileen Machado Benefit Dance featuring the Wicked Smart Horn Band will be held Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 6:00-10:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Littleton, NH. A donation of $20.00 will offer a welcome reception hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits and a fun filled party for those ages 21 and older. Along with great entertainment from the Wicked Smart Horn Band, many door prizes and raffle items will be available, including Cog Railway tickets, Lancaster Fair season passes, an original Sal Contreras watercolor painting, overnight stays at the Bretton Arms Country Inn and the Kearsarge Inn, and gift certificates from many local merchants like Foster’s Crossroads, Oasis Italian Restaurant, and Mackenzie Auto/NAPA.

Tickets to the dance will be sold in advance at the Bretton Woods Mountain Resort operations office at 603-278-3320.

In addition to the dance a raffle will be held on August 26, 2006. The impressive prize list includes a 1996 Buick Regal donated by White Mountain Auto, a BodeONE Season Pass & use of the Bode Suite for one day during 06/07 Season donated by Bretton Woods, a pair of Fischer Skis donated by Drummond’s Mountain Shop, Patriots opening day tickets donated by the Bretton Woods Ski Team, and a one night stay at The Mount Washington Hotel with golf for two. The ticket cost will be $10.00 per ticket and many prizes will be raffled.

Plans for a benefit golf tournament at the Mount Washington Resort are also in the works. All money raised through these endeavors will go to Babs’ fund, such as medical costs, treatments or travel. Thanks to the generosity of the community, everything needed to make this event possible is being donated. Caring members of the North Country community are contributing all food, facilities, and even the cost of printing the raffle tickets.
