NORTH CREEK, New York ??” A unique event combining downhill skiing, nordic skiing, and snowshoeing will be held at Gore Mountain Sunday, March 6.

The 3rd Annual Northwoods Triathlon kicks off at 11am, with day-of registration available at the Information Desk in the Main Lodge 8:30am-10:45am. Entry fees are $15 per person, and participants may register as a team of two or three people with at least one woman, or as Ironpeople that would complete all three legs individually.

The downhill leg, at 11am, will be held on Twin Fawns. Athletes will take two runs, with the better time counting towards final standings. The snowshoe leg is at noon and the nordic leg at 1:30pm. Each will be approximately four miles, using the various snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails in Gore Mountain’s base area. Awards will be based on a points system, so performance in each leg carries equal weight.

Previous competitor Jeff Lutzker of Saratoga Springs commented, “We were really impressed with the great job the staff did on organizing and monitoring the event and making sure everyone knew where they were going and was safe. Thanks for making this such an enjoyable experience.”

The weekend of March 5-6 will feature all 11 lifts and over 60 trails planned open, along with a two-day NASTAR racing clinic. Guests can learn how to read the race course better, improve starting techniques, and tactics to increase speed. The clinic is $199, or $149 for season passholders, and includes lift tickets, instruction, video analysis, and breakfasts and lunches.

Other upcoming events include Son Day Sundae Sunday March 13, when sons 19 and under ski free with full-paying parent, the Cardboard Derby March 19 (offering a grand prize of a trip for four to Aruba.), Topridge Bump Contest March 20, Season Passholder Mountain Challenge March 26, Easter Egg Hunt March 27, Gore Mountain Deck Party April 3, and the Pond Skimming Contest April 10.
