Great Penguin Race, Cranapalooza Highlight January Events at Cranmore

NORTH CONWAY, New Hampshire -??“ Cranmore Mountain Resort will kick off the New Year with an assortment of fun and festive family activities all taking place throughout the month of January at Cranmore, located in North Conway, NH. The events lineup includes the 3rd Annual Great Penguin Race, Cranapalooza, and the Jib Saw Massacre for skiers and riders in the Darkside Terrain Park.

Saturday, January 6 marks the first Cranapalooza of 2007. The night time festival of activities with night skiing from 2-9pm will feature a Fiesta theme and an entertainment lineup including a t-shirt giveaway in the lift line, s’mores around the fire pit, Professional Silly Person Todd Wellington, and musical guest Hey Yeti in the Eating House. Cranapalooza will return to the Wild Wild West on Saturday, January 13, featuring a cowboy theme, Illusionist Jason Purdy, and music by the White Mountain Boys. Fireworks will be launched at 7:30pm. The following week, Cranapalooza will head back to the 80’s on January 20 with a Day-Glo theme, Romper Rhythm Puppets Sir George and the Dragon, and Karaoke in the Eating House with DJ Kristen.

Guests may contribute to a good cause by participating in the Third Annual Great Penguin Race on Sunday, January 7. Rubber penguins are available for $5 at the Cranmore Ticket Haus, Trailside Sport Shop and Family Fitness Center, or the Mount Washington Valley Children’s Museum Gift Shop. Participants race penguins down the North Slope against hundreds of other penguins. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest non-modified and modified penguins. The Darkside Terrain Park team will present the opening Jib Saw Massacre snowboard and ski jams on Saturday, January 20 and Sunday, January 21. Registration is from 8-10am each day and the competition begins at 11:45am at the top of the Darkside on both days. Results and awards with prizes for top finishers will be given at 1:30pm both days. A $10 registration fee applies. Competitors require a lift ticket or season pass.

Cranapalooza lift tickets are available at $19 for all ages with access to lifts from 2-9pm. Skiers or riders who bring the same day’s ticket from any other mountain to the Cranmore Ticket Haus can get a Cranapalooza ticket for $15. Lift tickets are not required for Cranapalooza activities such as live music, entertainers and fireworks.

Cranmore is open from 9am-4pm Monday-Friday, 8:30am-9pm Cranapalooza Saturdays, and 8:30am-4pm Sundays. The Arctic Blast Tubing Park is open 9am-9pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 9am-4pm Sundays.
