NEWRY, Maine — Lake Placid’s Andrew Weibrecht finished sixth Thursday in Sunday River, Maine in the first of two North American Cup Chevrolet Super Series slalom races.

The alpine skier, who attended Northwood School and trained at the New York Ski Educational Foundation at Whiteface, was about 4-tenths of a second from another podium finish. On Wednesday, 21 year old Weibrecht, sponsored by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), took third in a giant slalom event at the same site.

The Sunday River events end Friday with a second slalom.
