MOUNT SNOW, Vermont — Mount Snow’s terrain park was ranked as the top terrain park in the East in Freeskier Magazine’s 2007 Terrain Park Guide.

“Mount Snow might be the only park on the East Coast that comes close to rivaling a top-level Western Park,” says senior editor Matt Harvey in Freeskier’s November 2006 issue. “The park is serviced by its own lift, has a pipe dug into the ground for early opening and boasts an 80-foot jump.”

Terrain parks have been part of the Mount Snow landscape since the early 1990s. The first terrain park in the East, Un Blanco Gulch, was built in 1992. The Carinthia area of the resort has featured two terrain parks, Inferno and El Diablo, as well as the Gut, a 460 foot-long half pipe with 18-foot walls that was used in the two years Mount Snow hosted the ESPN Winter X Games.

Ken Gaitor, Mount Snow’s terrain park designer, was very pleased with Freeskier’s ranking. However, he emphasized that to continue earning accolades it is important to continue dreaming up new features.

“We’re dedicated to offering the best terrain park experience that any skier or rider can have,” says Gaitor, who is currently planning Mount Snow’s newest terrain park, scheduled to open in December 2006. “We want to take the best of everything we’ve ever done and build on it: add rails, create new jump styles and other attractions.

Gaitor says plans for the new terrain park will combine the Inferno and El Diablo parks to offer nearly a mile of hits, rails and jibs ??“ making it the longest terrain park in the East. Details for a season long, interactive contest that allows guests to choose its name will be announced in the coming weeks.

Events scheduled this season at Mount Snow terrain parks include the Rail Jam on January 6, the Fourth Annual Snowstyle on February 3, and the Bud Light Anti-Gravity Grail event series on February 17-19. Young skiers and snowboarders can get in on the fun at the Grommet, a terrain park specially built for kids. Three Grommet Jams will be held during the season on December 30, January 15 and March 11.
