New England Shops Send Best Riders to Loon Showdown

LINCOLN, New Hampshire ??” Loon Mountain is inviting some of New England’s best amateur riders, representing the finest winter sports shops, to compete in Loon’s third annual Shop Showdown. The terrain park event will take place on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 10 a.m.

Stores such as Eastern Boarder and Theory in Massachusetts, Lahoots and NuWave in New Hampshire, and No School in Vermont, are just a few of the shops sending their best snowboarders to Loon Mountain Park for the competition. This event is open to shop employees and shop team riders. The field is limited to 20 teams of two, and if a shop has more than one location they may send one additional team.

Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by a participant meeting at 10 a.m. at Loon’s Yurt. Teams will be judged as they hit an assortment of rails, the 450-foot long superpipe and the new 32-foot high wall ride. Riders will earn points for overall impression based on style, degree of difficulty and execution. Prizes include “one sick” trophy, a trip to Lake Tahoe, CA, a week at the U.S. Open with the Oakley Team, and some serious prize packs from Oakley, Santa Cruz and Mission Six. Theory Snowboard Shop of Northampton, MA, rode away with top honors last year.
