LUDLOW, Vermont — Okemo Mountain Resort will host its inaugural Joey Jam on March 28. The competition, open to all skiers and snowboarders, will consist of an easy butterbox terrain park feature and a small jump. The grand prize for entrants 18 and older is a 1992, 25th anniversary edition Chevy Camaro RS.

“The thing about Joeys is that if you have to ask what one is, you might just be one,” says Okemo Events Manager Liam Fracht-Monroe. “There’s a little Joey in all of us and this event is our irreverent way of having a bit of fun with some of our more conspicuous clientele.”

A panel of somewhat-seedy, celebrity judges will award points to Joey Jam competitors in three categories:

• Riding a box like a Joey ??“ competitors can do a trick on the box, near the box or while looking at the box. It’s all about attitude when it comes to performance.
• Hitting a wicked awesome jump like a Joey ??“ it will be a small jump but Joeys are the masters of bravado and excel at turning the simplest maneuver into a major feat of accomplishment.
• Embracing the inner Joey ??“ walk, talk and dress like a Joey. Classic Joey attire includes, but is not limited to, designer jeans tucked into rear-entry ski boots, sports-team-logo Starter jackets and outdated ski attire. Over-the-top bonus points will be awarded to competitors who best exhibit the Joey lifestyle. Familiarity with the menu at Kelly’s Roast Beef or the exits on the Garden State Parkway could go a long way.

Registration for Okemo’s Joey Jam will take place in the main base area from 8-10 a.m. on March 28. Pre-registration is available at active.com and entries will be limited. The entry fee is $10. The competition is a jam format and begins at 11 a.m. on Bull Run. Spectators are welcome. Prizes will be awarded immediately following the event and an apr??s ski party with rockin’ Joey tunes will take place in the Sitting Bull starting at 3 p.m. Joeys of the female persuasion (would that make them JoAnnes?) are also welcome.

Entrants who are 18 or older will be eligible to win a 1992 “purple haze” Chevy Camaro ??“ the ultimate ride for the ultimate Joey. Additional prizes for all ages include skis, snowboards, helmets, jackets, CDs and more.
