LUDLOW, Vermont — On January 28, Okemo Mountain Resort will host the Lindsey Baron Memorial Halfpipe Competition, part of the Okemo Freeride Series. The competition is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Registration is scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Okemo Clocktower Base Lodge mezzanine and the registration fee is $20. The competition is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. in the SoBe Superpipe. Prizes and awards will be provided by the series sponsors: SoBe, ScottUSA, Dakine, Obermeyer, Salomon, Atomic Snowboards, Level Gloves, and Mountain Dew. Every competitor entered in the contest will receive a Lindsey Baron “Bubba” T-shirt with their registration. All proceeds from the competition will be donated to the Lindsey Baron “Bubba” Foundation, which raises money for scholarships and programs that promote acts of kindness and reward and encourage the values which Lindsey embraced: friendliness, inclusiveness, unselfishness, citizenship and empathy.

Lindsey Baron was a member of the Bethlehem, New York, Central High School Class of 1997. She was an avid snowboader and the first junior female snowboarding Instructor at Okemo Mountain Resort. Lindsey volunteered as a Buddy in the School of Similarities at Bethlehem. In numerous ways, Lindsey impacted the Bethlehem community through her many acts of kindness.

On a summer evening in June 1996, Lindsey was hit and killed by a car while walking with her two sisters in her neighborhood. In the spirit of Lindsey’s unselfish nature, her organs were donated to bring healing to others.

Before her death, Lindsey had created “Bubba,” a snowboarding character, and had produced and sold “Bubba” stickers in Colorado, New York, and Vermont. Their enormous popularity inspired her to dream of expanding the business to include shirts, hats, and other merchandise that would appeal to snowboarders; a dream she wrote about in an essay for her college applications. The Lyndsey Baron Bubba Fund was created as a company to carry out Lindsey’s dream and make the line of “Bubba” merchandise a reality. All profits earned by LBBF, Inc. are contributed to the Fund.
