NEWRY, Maine ??” Jimmy Buffet fans and mogul skiers return to Sunday River on March 31 for the start of the Parrot Head Weekend and 19th annual Bust ???n’ Burn Mogul Competition presented by Bud Light. The weekend-long festival will include live entertainment from several Jimmy Buffet cover bands, contests, pond skimming and more. A full schedule of Parrot Head Weekend events is available at www.sundayriver.com/parrothead.

With almost 20 individual events scheduled throughout the weekend, guests can expect nonstop activity both on and off the mountain. A portion of the proceeds from the event goes to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.

The festival will be well underway on Saturday at 2 p.m. as bartenders and representatives from regional restaurants compete for the title of “Best Margarita” with the Margarita Mix-Off. As part of the contest spectators of legal age can purchase sample tickets to judge for themselves which of the competing cocktails is best. Later in the afternoon skiers and riders will head onto the hill to take part in the pond-skimming competition, an event where participants must combine speed and balance to clear a small pond built at White Cap’s base.

The Bust ???n’ Burn Mogul Competition, now in it’s 19th year will bring top amateur bump skiers to compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. Spectators will watch from White Cap Lodge as up to 225 competitors race down Tempest on Saturday, with the top 32 moving on to Sunday’s competition. Participation is open to all and registration will begin Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Shipyard Brew Haus located in White Cap Lodge. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each age category and the top 32 overall from Saturday’s competition.

A portion of the proceeds from the Weekend benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine as part of a collaborative effort between the Parrot Head Club of Maine and the resort (Parrot Heads are Jimmy Buffett enthusiasts who are members of a network of clubs that exist across the world). Each year’s Parrot Head Festival at Sunday River raises approximately $10,000 for Maine’s Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Parrot Head Weekend ski and stay lodging packages start at $79.95 per person per night and are available by calling (800) 543-2SKI or at www.sundayriver.com.
