SNOWSHOE, West Virginia — Snowshoe Mountain Resort announced today that all 60 of the mountain’s slopes will be open beginning Friday, January 23. Lower Shay’s Revenge, the only slope not currently open on the mountain, will make its season debut on Friday morning. This will be the first time since the 2006-2007 season that Lower Shay’s, a double black diamond expert slope, has opened.

On Monday, the mountain’s half-pipe, located at the Silver Creek Area, made its season debut. Snowshoe now has four terrain park areas open, offering guests more than 25 rails, boxes, jumps and other features. On Saturday, Snowshoe will host the annual West Virginia Open Rail Jam competition. The event offers a $4000 cash purse, with the first place skier and snowboarder each walking away with $2000. This spectator friendly event takes place right outside the Shavers Centre building. Practice begins after the slopes close at 4:30 p.m.. Registration occurs day-of inside The Depot, located in Snowshoe’s mountaintop Village.

With the addition of Lower Shay’s Revenge on Friday, Snowshoe will offer guests 244 acres of skiable acres to explore. With three distinct areas; the Snowshoe Basin, the Silver Creek Area and the Western Territory, Snowshoe offers guests a great variety of terrain. With everything from gentle beginner cruisers to the 1.5 miles of knee-weakening expert terrain in the Western Territory, the resort offers skiers and riders the opportunity to progress and challenge themselves.

Already this season 127″ of natural snow has fallen at Snowshoe, which accounts for more than 70% of the resort’s average annual snowfall. In addition to the natural snowfall, Snowshoe’s expert snowmaking team has been making snow nearly around the clock for the last two and a half weeks. Consistently cold temperatures have allowed the resort to make piles of snow, increasing its base and making conditions absolutely fabulous across the mountain. Current forecasts call for some additional snowfall this week, as well as great snowmaking conditions right into the weekend.

Snowshoe also has some great deals available, including a new Third Night Free offer. Just book a two or more night package between Jan 20 and March 1, during a non-holiday period, and your third night is on Snowshoe. The offer starts at $302 per person for three nights of lodging, three days of lift tickets and free day of arrival lift tickets. But you must hurry to take advantage of this great deal; the offer expires on February 13.

Snowshoe offers the most open terrain in the region, and the mountain’s drive-to destination is convenient from most locations in the East. Snowshoe offers all the extras you want during a winter escape, including ski school and child care facilities, 20 dining options, shopping, a spa, a nightclub, a comedy club, great adventure activities like guided snowmobile tours, indoor/outdoor heated pool and hot tubs, and the amazing 15,000 square foot Big Top Family Entertainment Center.
