CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Sugarloaf Golf Club, Maine’s premier golf course, will kick off its 27th season on Friday, May 25. Sugarloaf is the number one golf course in Maine, according to Golf Digest’s most recent course rankings.

The course will host its annual “Memorial Day Scramble” on Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27.

In April Sugarloaf announced that 7-time Maine Amateur Champion and Maine Golf Hall of Fame member Abby Spector will join the club as Head Golf Professional this season. Spector will be on hand for the course opening this weekend.

The course will feature 16 holes during opening weekend while work continues on replacements for two bridges that were damaged during Hurricane Irene last August. The bridges are expected to be completed within two weeks.

The 2012 season will also see the installation of a new, $1.7 million irrigation system, to replace the existing irrigation system. Work on the new irrigation will continue throughout the summer.

The Sugarloaf Golf Club is Maine’s premier golfing destination, and has consistently been ranked as one of Maine and New England’s premier golf courses since it opened 26 years ago.
