NEWRY, Maine ??” The western Maine Mountains are calling New England golfers this spring with a special deal valid through the end of May. The Sunday River Golf Club, which was recently named the #1 public course in Maine by Golfweek Magazine, is offering lodging in one of two Grand Resort Hotels and a round of golf including cart from $79.99 per person per night. Interested golfers should call (800) 543-2754 to reserve a Spring Golf and Stay Package.
The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design opened for the season on Saturday, April 29 along with the full practice facility. While the course has been turning green under increasingly strong May sun, ski trails visible from the course still hold patches of snow. Course updates are available at www.sundayriver.com/golf including a blog that features updated photography from the course.
Spread across a 350-acre site that sits on a northwest-facing hillside with sweeping views across the Sunday River Valley to the Mahoosuc Mountain Range, the course plays to 7,130 yards from the championship tees. The clubhouse is made of log and stone and features a deck with sweeping views, an indoor/outdoor stone fireplace, a stone-faced bar, woodcarvings and Old Hickory furniture. A full practice facility includes a driving range with multiple target greens and an expansive putting green, located adjacent to the clubhouse.
