BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire ??” BodeFest Ski and Golf Challenge 2006 proved to be a huge success for the third year in a row. Fabulous cool nights and warm sunny days made for superb skiing and golfing conditions. Competitors in the event included former Olympian and gold medal skier, Bill Johnson.
Bode spent Friday afternoon freeskiing with some eager young skiers and on Saturday mingled with each team at the top of the ski course, posing for photos and signing autographs. Coming into the Sunday morning golf portion of the competition, the Mainiacs team and the Retreads team were tied for first place. Under brilliant blue skies, the 9-hole scramble came down to one stroke better by first place team the Mainiacs: Fern Comeau, Tip Kimball, Scott, Berube, and Brook Neal.
Closest to the Pin awards were given to Jim Burke and Brook Neal, with the Longest Drive Honors going to Shawn Boyd and Amanda Malkin. Vernon, New Jersey resident Amanda Malkin also proved her prowess on the slopes as the fastest female skier on Saturday.
This ski and golf event challenged four-person teams in two of Bode’s favorite sports: skiing and golf ??“ all in the same weekend. $9000 in proceeds raised will benefit Bode’s own charity, The Turtle Ridge Foundation, and the Bretton Woods Adaptive Program, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing sports and recreation to people with disabilities.
Chris Ellms, Bretton Woods Director of Ski Operations, commented, “The staff at Bretton Woods Mountain Resort would like to thank all of the generous sponsors of BodeFest Ski and Golf Challenge 2006, as well as the dedicated Bode fans who came to Bretton Woods to support the event. BodeFest is truly about the love of skiing, golfing, and outdoor camaraderie, and it is each of the participants that have made it a success that we hope to continue for years to come.”
