LAKE PLACID, New York ??” The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) will offer a Wilderness First Aid certification course on November 19-20, 2005 at the Heart Lake Program Center at the Adirondak Loj. This intense two-day workshop will teach students how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help and dialing 911 is not an option. Through hands-on scenarios and lecture structure, students will learn to assess patients, become certified in wilderness first aid, CPR, and anaphylaxis training. Class time will be spent both inside and out, rain, shine, or snow, (just like in real life.), so please be prepared for unpredictable Adirondack weather.

Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) has been teaching wilderness medicine courses throughout the country for over a decade and is recognized nationwide as a leader in the field of wilderness first aid. All WMA instructors have substantial experience in emergency medicine, backcountry trekking, and teaching.

The price of the course is $175 for instruction only and $235 for the lodging package which includes instruction, lodging, and meals from dinner Friday night through lunch on Sunday. Participants should bring a day pack with articles you would normally bring to the backcountry and be prepared to spend some time outdoors in unpredictable weather. To register, call ADK at (518) 523-3441. For more information visit www.adk.org or call (518) 523-3480.
