The Gore Mountain Region Welcomes the JIII State Championships

NORTH CREEK, New York ??” On Thursday, February 23, the Gore Mountain Region and the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) will host the New York State Ski Racing Association’s (NYSSRA) JIII Alpine State Championships.

Approximately 115 13-14 year-olds from throughout New York State will participate in a series of races over February 23-26. Races will be held on “Twister,” Gore Mountain’s recently improved race trail, at 10:00 am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.

“Gore Mountain is proud to host the JIII State Championships. This event is a goal for the young ski athletes and their families. The races also provide important economic benefits to the businesses of our region,” said Mike Pratt, Gore Mountain General Manager.

The championship will begin with Super G training runs on Thursday, followed by the race on Friday. Giant Slalom and Slalom will take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively. All races will finish in the base area by the Adirondack Express Triple Chair, providing an exciting spectator opportunity.

43 racers will advance from the State Championships. The most successful will qualify for the Junior Olympics at Gore Mountain on March 11-12, the championship of the entire Eastern United States.

11 athletes from the Gore Mountain ski team will be represented in the State Championships.
