NORTH CONWAY, New Hampshire ??” Cranmore Mountain Resort will once again see just how fast a penguin can slide down the mountain during the 2nd Annual Great Penguin Race on Sunday, January 8. Cranmore penguins are now available for $5 at Ticket Haus or for purchase the day of the race. All proceeds from the sales will benefit the North Conway chapter of the Salvation Army.

“Last year this event brought out the creative side of participants with everything from penguins frozen in ice to riding down on snowskates” said events coordinator Katie Ross. “The Great Penguin Race is a race that is fun and it benefits a great organization.”

Registration is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Schneider Square fire pit located behind the Main Base Lodge. Modifications can be made to the penguins but it must weigh less than one pound and be less than five inches long. North Conway’s favorite penguin, C-Mor, will kick-off the Great Penguin Race at 11:30 a.m. as contestants release their penguins down a specially designed penguin slide track at the base of North Slope. Winners will be determined in each heat to advance to the finals. Prizes will be awarded in the main base lodge at the conclusion of the race.

Cranmore is open with top-to-bottom skiing and riding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. For more information on Cranmore Mountain events please call 1-800-SUN N SKI (786-6754) or visit www.cranmore.com.
