The Unofficial Start to Winter at Gunstock

GILFORD, New Hampshire — The leaves have fallen, the nights are colder and there is frost on the ground. Gunstock Mountain Resort declared Saturday, November 3rd as the Unofficial Start of Winter. It is going to be an all day affair at Gunstock this Saturday, Says Bill Quigley, Director of Marketing and Sales. With the Gunstock Ski Club Sale, Mountainside Outfitters Sale, The First Meeting of the Gunstock Freestyle Academy and the 3rd Annual Fall-Over Rail Jam.

The Gunstock Ski Sale kicks of the morning at 9 am, with one of the area’s largest sales. 10 of New Hampshire’s biggest shops bring all their gear to this annual event. Over million dollars of inventory will be at the sale. If you are looking to get outfitted, this is the time, and all profits go directly to the Gunstock Ski Club.

Saturday marks the beginning of a new era at Gunstock with the information meeting of the new Gunstock Freestyle Academy. Modeled after the Gunstock Ski Club(the longest running ski club in the nation), The GFA will train athletes ages 8-18 in the park. Stomp new tricks, perfect old ones, and get ready for all the comps held in New England. Concentration will be on snowboards and twin tips, with dedicated coaching all season.

Stay into the night as Gunstock Mountain Resort does it, again. It’s never too early to go to the hill. Get to Gunstock for the 3rd Annual Fall Over Rail Jam from 6-8pm. Gunstock is breaking out the rails and boxes so you can show off your stuff before the snow begins to fly. Truckloads of snow will be arriving, so the hits will be white. Bring your camera, cell phone, video camera ??“ anything you can to record your moves off to your friends. The event gets bigger and better every year. This year’s Rail Jam is sponsored by Fire on the Mountain & Burning Boards in Dover, NH along with Head Skis. Mountain Dew will be blasting tunes and providing SWAG & drinks.

The cost to compete is $10 along with a non-perishable food item that will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul in Laconia. There is no cost to spectators, so come out and watch. Food donations from all are welcome to help out the great work being done at St. Vincent de Paul. Registration is all day in the Welcome Center ??“ so make your plans to get to Gunstock.

Gunstock, located in Gilford New Hampshire, is one of the state’s largest recreation areas and celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The first ski area in New England to have a chairlift, Gunstock boasts 1400 feet of vertical, over 220 acres of skiing, and 300 campsites during the summer, spectacular views of the Lake Winnipesaukee at every turn. It is also the host of major events such as the HillClimb during Laconia Bike week, The Laconia Nationals, RibFest, CraftFest, Soulfest, TimberMan Triathlon and Oktoberfest.
