PINKHAM NOTCH, New Hampshire — Wildcat Mountain, located right next to Mt. Washington, received about six inches of snow from the snowstorm over the holiday weekend. While it was not as much snow as anticipated by forecasters, Wildcat still was able to open a significant number of trails, and double the number of open trails from twelve on Sunday, Jan. 14th to twenty-five by Monday, Jan. 15th. The Wildcat Express high-speed Quad, the most powerful in New England, with a base to summit ride of about six minutes, opened for the first time on Sunday, as well. Wildcat has received over a foot of natural snow in the past ten days.

“Conditions now are very good out there,” explains Alex Bernotavicz, Wildcat’s Director of Mountain Operations. “We just really needed an additional six to eight inches in order to provide ample cover on the existing natural base, then it is just a matter of Ski Patrol getting out there and making sure things are safe for skiers,” she explains. According to Bernotavicz, Wildcat has been on the verge of opening more terrain on several occasions this season, but their efforts have been thwarted by the mild temperatures. Snowmaking continues in the cooler temps, and the extended forecast is indicating more seasonal winter weather favorable for winter outdoor enthusiasts, as well as snow in the next few days. Notes Bernotavicz, “We always say that things can change dramatically overnight, and we mean it.” Wildcat expects to be skiing and riding on at least 28 trails this weekend, possibly more.

Wildcat has always been known for its Two-Fer Wednesday special, which it started in 1967, where two adults can ski for the price of one. More “Wild Deals” have been added to the list, including $20 Sunday afternoons and midweek programs such as AristoCat Tuesdays for Ages 50+ and Ladies’ Days on Thursdays. Live entertainment is also on the schedule apr??s ski every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the season.
