Wildcat Mountain’s 4th Annual 100K Day Challenge for Make-A-Wish Foundation?В®
PINKHAM NOTCH, New Hampshire — On Monday, March 5, 2007, skiers and riders once again will converge at Wildcat Mountain to take part in this unique event??”Wildcat’s 4th Annual 100K Day. This day-long event is a test to see who has the strength and determination to tackle 100,000 vertical feet in one single day of skiing or riding. Forty-eight runs down the Lynx trail, with 2,112 feet of vertical per run, is what it takes to complete the Challenge. And it’s all for a great cause. Wildcat’s 100K Day is a fundraising event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation?В®, an organization which “grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in order to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.”
From 7:30am to 4:30pm, registered skiers and riders will have the chance to knock off 100K of vertical in a single day via the Wildcat Express, New England’s most powerful detachable quad chairlift. From the summit, contestants will head down the Lynx, which will be open to 100K challengers only on that day. Last year 25 out of 26 participants met the 100K challenge. Manfred Raschke of Newburyport, MA, took first place for the second year in a row by raising the most money for Make-a-Wish ($4,250), and went home with a brand new pair of Rossignol skis.
Registration is open and available on-line at skiwildcat.com. The registration fee is $60, or $30 for Wildcat Season Pass Holders. The field is limited to 40 contestants, and each participant must raise a minimum of $250 in pledges for the benefit of Make-a-Wish Foundation before event day, March 5th. Helmets are required for the event, and all ages and abilities are welcome to come up to Wildcat and see if they have what it takes to ski 100,000 feet of vertical in a single day. Rules and registration information and photos from last year’s event can be found on-line at http://www.skiwildcat.com/100Kday.html or by calling 1-888-SKI WILD.
The event will be followed by an Awards Banquet and Dinner in Wildcat’s Pub. Top prizes will be awarded to the top fund-raisers for Make-A-Wish?В®.
Last year, through the generosity of event participants and sponsors, the 100K Challenge raised over $17,500 for Make-A-Wish. Current sponsors include Mountain Dew, Dakine, and The Chris Fitz Band.
