  • Parker Mountain

Date: Sunday, January 21, 2001 Parker Mountain (1410') is in Strafford, New Hampshire. This mountain is a good place to practice with snowshoes. I took the Mooers Loop Trail to the Link Trail to the Spencer Smith Trail to the 10' cairn on the summit. The Mooers Loop Trail is an old logging road and is easy to hike on. There was a tree across the trail that was difficult to cross with snowshoes. Then I took the Link Trail up the side of Parker Mountain. Th...

So I have decided to give peace a chance and do something different. Tomorrow I will bag a peak In the morning I am looking at the ...

Tuesday, October 24, 2000 Another Hobo & Lightfoot adventure. Couldn't have asked for a better day, from beginning to end. The temperature rose to the low 60s in the Berkshires, a slight breeze, and the sky was a beautiful turquoise; not a cloud anywhere. I met LightFoot at his place at around 7:45 am, and after scarin his ole-lady to death, we were on the road by 8:00 am. A brief stop for gas, and a quick bite at Collins' Restaurant in Cannan, we w...

  • Cannon, N. Kinsman, and S. Kinsman

Saturday, 10/21/2000 I started the hike at 5:50 AM. The Lonesome Lake Trail to the Hi-Cannon Trail was easy. The Hi-Cannon Trail was difficult due to the trail being eroded and not well blazed. I watched the sun rise over Mount Lafayette and Mount Lincoln. I reached a ladder that looked like it was falling apart but it was safe. I got to the summit of Cannon before the tram and restaurant was open so I had the summit to myself. I took the Kinsman Ridge Tr...

We were off to New York's Adirondak mountains t...

  • Fear and Friction in North Conway N.H.

    0

Date: Monday, 22 Sep 2000 Driving. All I can remember of this day is driving. We cut loose from work after 4 in the afternoon and finally got organized enough to get on the road around 5. We had to get into Conway NH before 10pm or we would be locked out of the hostel. It's a bloody long way (290 miles). So I drive like a demon up the I-91 all the way through rush hour snarls either side of Hartford and the carefree weavers of Massachusetts until finally ...

Date: Wednesday, 23 Aug 2000 Location: Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden CT Leon and I had planned to go back to the Chin and do another climb this afternoon. The weather, however, was not being helpful. It hadn't rained for almost a week. We had hoped it would stay away for just a few more hours, but it didn't. It rained like hell. Most people would have bailed out. We had been watching the radar like hawks all morning. Watching as big rain moved east ...
