Restaurant will feature “modern Maine comfort food” and take place of the Double Diamond Steakhouse

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – 45 North, a new restaurant specializing in “Maine comfort food,” will open in the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel this winter, moving into the former home of the Double Diamond Steakhouse.

The name “45 North” is a reference to Sugarloaf’s latitude, and the restaurant’s concept will revolve around Maine. The restaurant will feature a full bar and formal dining room, serving breakfast and dinner year-round.

45 North will feature a menu based on “modern Maine comfort foods,” with classic recipes featuring an updated presentation, crafted by longtime Sugarloaf-area chef Gary Hubert.

Hubert has worked as head chef at numerous restaurants in the Sugarloaf area and along the Maine coast over the past 35 years, including Dennet’s Wharf in Castine and the former Arbella’s at Sugarloaf, of which Huburt was an owner.

The new restaurant is expected to open in early December, following a dramatic renovation to the current space. The interior of 45 North will be inspired by the classic farmhouses and barns of Franklin County, featuring both modern and vintage elements that will create a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Renovations are schedule to begin in late October. The Double Diamond Steakhouse will close for good in early November, reopening as 45 North in early December.

The new restaurant is the first phase of a reinvention of food services at Sugarloaf, as the resort assumes management of its food services from Centerplate, a Massachusetts based hospitality company, whose 25-year lease with Sugarloaf expired this year.
