New vendors are the latest in expanding food options for Sugarloaf skiers and riders

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – Skiers and snowboarders at Sugarloaf are enjoying an ever-expanding array of dining options this season, and the resort welcomes two more vendors this month, with Bob’s Clam Hut and Mountain Waffles opening in the Sugarloaf Base Lodge.

The two new options follow last week’s grand opening of 45 North, a new fine-dining restaurant located in the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel.

Bob’s Clam Hut has been a Maine institution since it first opened its doors 57 years ago in Kittery, ME, and has received countless accolades from national publications and television programs for its famous fried clam recipe. Forbes Magazine selected Bob’s Clam Hut as one of its 40 favorite restaurants in the country, and the restaurant was recently featured on the hit Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.

The new Bob’s Clam Hut location in the Sugarloaf Base Lodge will be only its second location, along with the original in Kittery.

“For all these years I felt Bob’s should not, and would not, try to repeat its success somewhere else – that it would be too hard to re-create the special qualities of Bob’s in Kittery,” Bob’s Clam Hut owner Michael Landgarten said. “Something however felt so natural when (Sugarloaf Food and Beverage Director) Jon Rollins invited us to be there. Sugarloaf being such a respected and beloved place, Jon being such a fan of Bob’s and the staff at Bob’s being off-the-charts enthusiastic about the opportunity made it a clear choice.”

Bob’s Clam Hut will be located in the southwest corner of the Sugarloaf Base Lodge, with easy access to patrons both inside the lodge and outside on “The Beach.” Bob’s will open for the winter season on Saturday, December 22.

Mountain Waffles, a staple at many ski resorts around the country, offers convenient, “grab’n go” Liege Belgian Waffles, designed specifically for skiers and riders on the go. The waffles are made using a proprietary yeast blend perfected over the course of 50 years, sweetened with pearl sugar, a type of sugar unique to Belgium that helps give the waffles their sweet flavor and crisp texture. The waffles are drizzled in dark Belgian chocolate and served in convenient, easy to carry forms.

Mountain Waffles is currently open in the Narrow Gauge Cafeteria area of the Sugarloaf Base Lodge.
