WATERVILLE VALLEY, New Hampshire ??” Like a fiddle and a bow, bluegrass and barbecue go hand in hand – particularly so at Waterville Valley, July 23 – when Waterville Valley’s Town Square celebrates summer with a free bluegrass concert starting at noon. The Parker Hill Road Band takes the Town Square Gazebo stage from noon to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m., the good ol’ down home sounds of Monadnock will serve as accompaniment to a delicious traditional barbecue dinner served by Diamond’s Edge North and Legends 1291 Sports Bar and Grill.

Celebrating its sixth annual Bluegrass and Barbecue, Waterville Valley’s Town Square offers an assortment of family activities in addition to the complimentary concert. For a nominal fee, visitors may enjoy boating on Corcoran’s Pond. Paddle boats, canoes and kayaks are available for rent. With miles of well-marked and well-maintained trails, families may opt to explore the area on foot or rent mountain bikes. The Waterville Valley Skateboard Park beckons to riders who want to drop in and show a little steez. The Waterville Valley Golf Course is nine-holes of fun for the family that golfs together, or cool off with ice skating in the Waterville Valley Skating Rink – all located in, or just a stone’s throw away from the idyllic New England white-clapboard Town Square. Of course shopping is another favorite pastime and families may peruse the eclectic shops and lunch or snack at the first-rate restaurants of Town Square.

As lengthening shadows mark an end to the day, Town Square fires up the grill and offers a delicious barbecue dinner, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring steak, chicken, Angus beef burgers and all-beef hot dogs, assorted salads, corn bread, baked beans and all the fixin’s, plus lemonade and all-too-tempting desserts – all for just $11 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under. Barbecue tickets may be purchased on the day of the event or in advance at the Town Square Condo Office.
