TANNERSVILLE, Pa. – Camelback Mountain Resort has distributed more than $50,000 among four local charities that were selected to benefit from the 2013 “Big Give” this summer.

The “Big Give” is an annual fundraising event that Camelback Mountain Resort offers to the community. Interested charities submit applications to participate in the “Big Give”, and are selected based on a criteria of need, proposal for fund disbursement and potential for community impact.

The 2013 charities selected were Devereux of Pocono, the Sherman Theater, the United Way of Monroe County and We Can Do Better. Each charity was given a designated day at Camelback Mountain Resort to host their own duck race, “The Great Pocono Quack”, an event that races rubber ducks through Camelback’s Blue Nile Adventure River. 100% of the duck sales went to each charity. The charities also raised money by selling deeply discounted general admission tickets to Camelbeach, Pennsylvania’s largest waterpark.

“We were delighted to partner with each of our 2013 charity beneficiaries to help them raise both money and awareness for their organization,” said Brian Czarnecki, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Camelback Mountain Resort is proud to bring not only fun, but also funds, to our community. We look forward to continuing these unique and entertaining events this winter and during the 2014 “Big Give”.

“We are so grateful to Camelback Mountain Resort for choosing the United Way of Monroe County as one of the recipients for this year’s “Big Give”,” said Monica Cravotta, campaign and fund distribution director of the United Way of Monroe County. “Our United Way is dedicated to uniting people and improving lives right here in Monroe County. These funds will help us help others – like the family that needs shelter, the senior who now needs meals delivered to her home, the mother who’s seeking safety from an abusive relationship, and so many more – in our community in need of a hand-up, not a handout.”

Charities interested in participating in the 2014 “Big Give” should complete an application, which can be found at www.camelbeach.com/amusement-water-park.aspx. Applications are being accepted now through May 9, 2014. Since the “Big Give’s” inception in 2008, more than $175,000 has been raised to benefit community programs.
